Abstract
The Goos–Hänchen lateral shifts of the TM-polarized defect modes, both in reflection and transmission, have been theoretically investigated for a 1D photonic crystal featuring an all-dielectric elliptical metamaterial defect layer, with the analysis conducted in the near-infrared range. The reflection and transmission spectra of the structure exhibited a wide photonic band gap in this region of wavelength with defect modes dependent on the angle of incidence. The results showed that the wavelengths of the defect modes shifted toward shorter wavelengths by the increase of the incidence angle. Besides, the reflectance and the transmittance of the defect modes varied noticeably by the change of the incidence angle. It was revealed that the relative Goos–Hänchen shifts of the reflected modes have negative values while the relative shifts of the transmitted modes are positive. Also, the increasing behavior of the lateral shifts at the defect mode conditions have been exhibited by the results.
